Do You Believe God?

This was a question asked of Cassie Bernall, a high school student at Columbine High School, April 20, 1999. It was reported that she took a deep breath and said, “YES.” The gunman asked, “WHY” and before she could answer he pulled the trigger and ended her life.

We are living in “perilous times.” There are those of us that believe we see the coming of the Lord as very close. We see and hear of all of these riots and protests and equate them with the happenings recorded in the Word after the rapture of the church. That leads us to believe that all of these things are the beginning of sorrows in Matthew 24:8.

We are living in “perilous times” when men are lovers of their own selves, unthankful and unholy. John tells us they are of their father the devil and the lusts of your father ye will do. These people who are doing all of this rioting and mayhem do not realize that they are going to soon stand before God and answer for their actions. They do not understand that they will soon bend their knee and confess with their mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord. Romans 14:11

I do not know the hour of the coming of the Lord, but I do know that we are told to be ready.

“Therefore be ye also ready, for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of Man cometh.” Matthew 24:44

I do believe that if the Lord does not come soon we are going to be put to the test. This same question could be asked of us. “Do you believe God?” I think it would be good for every professing Christian to search his or her heart as to how they would answer that question if put to the test.

I thank God this young person had enough God in her to say “yes.” Let me remind you of all of those who are out on the streets yelling and screaming injustice and do not understand that it is not justice they need but mercy; the mercy of God. They need to hear that there is mercy and grace available for them. I wonder why they do not know that they need to look to Jesus like Cassie did. If they did, they would not be burning and destroying but building and helping.

It is our responsibility to witness and pray for every creature.
