“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.”

The above passage of scripture is found in . It is a commandment to little children, all Christians, fathers, older Christians, young men, and new in the faith Christians, not to love the world. Understanding them to be strong Christians John gives this instruction. Love not the world! The world, “Cosmos” is defined as the universe, the earth, the whole human race, sinners and the kingdom of Satan on earth. Since the kingdom of Satan is in opposition to the kingdom of God, we Christians are not to look to the world for our satisfaction.

To love the world is to love those things that are desired by the flesh, the things desired by the eyes and things desired by human pride. If it takes the things of the world to give satisfaction in life, John says the love of the Father is not in you. Men cannot love both the world and the Father because they are enemies and the love for one hinders the love for the other. We must live in this world but we are not to be a part of it. The world and the lusts of the world are those things that not only rob us of a relationship with the Lord but of our Christian testimony.

The keepers of this commandment do not love the world or the things in the world, but they do love the Father and His Son and His word. The keepers of the this commandment fill their lives with the things of God, the church, the Bible, prayer, witnessing, loving the fellowship of God’s people and seeking God’s will for their lives.

The devil being the enemy of God is the enemy of the believer as well. As John writes this passage for our Spiritual well being it is necessary to understand that we can allow our flesh to overcome our spiritual good sense. In so doing we allow the world to rob us of the most important relationship afforded to humankind, that being in fellowship with God and walking with Him daily.

“Truly our fellowship is with the Father and His Son Jesus Christ.”
