“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given”

“And she brought forth her first born son”

Those of us who know the Lord in saving grace have no trouble with the virgin birth of the Lord Jesus Christ. We believe the Bible account as given without question. However, there are those who question and raise the question, “Is it so?”

We receive it as a fact of biblical truth without question. That He is the Son of God who became man born in Bethlehem, wrapped in swaddling clothes and laid in a manger. It is also biblical truth that a Son is given. We believe as an undeniable truth that God has given His only begotten Son to be the Saviour of men.

There is another question raised concerning the birth of the Christ child and the testimony of many who claim Him as their Lord and Saviour. If it is so and we believe it without question why are so many seemingly so cold and indifferent concerning their relationship with Him, understanding the finished work of the Cross?

The great preacher of old, Bro. Spurgeon, raised the question concerning this, “How is it that we serve Him so sadly who served us so perfectly?” It seems that there are many who enjoy the benefits of the Christ child but have great difficulty in dedication to Him.

If it is so, and it is, how is it that we love Him so little? Why is it that I am not more earnest when I pray, sincere in my witness and grateful in my person? How is it that we give so little to Christ who gave so much, Himself, for us?

I believe the Apostle Paul gave us the answer in his letter to the Ephesians in his admonishment to walk worthy of your vocation and we do not because we have not so learned Christ.

It would behoove us to take His yoke upon us and learn of Him; to come to know Him, not as a babe in a manger, but as Christ Jesus, our Lord and Saviour.
