Psalm 139 is a wonderful Psalm of comfort for the believer in knowing that God knows everything about us. You may not have a relationship with God but He does with you. He knows when you sit down and when you rise up. He is familiar with your ways. Even the very hairs of your head are numbered and in Him we have our being and live. God knew us before we were formed in the belly; even before you were conceived. You were not a mistake, for all of our days are written in His book. He determined the day of birth and has determined the day of death. It was His doing that caused you to be born into the family that you were. It is His doing that you are male or female. He has made us of our father and mother and chose the place where we would live our lives. He has so formed us that we are wonderfully and fearfully made. Who can explain the greatness of the human body and its functions and abilities? He is not distant from us; we are distant from Him. He has made every provision for us to be happy and enjoy all the good things of this life. It is the desire of God to lavish us with His love and to provide our every need. He has and can do more than our earthly father could ever do. He not only has given life, but He has given life everlasting. He is the perfect father and provides for us in His perfection every good and perfect gift. He meets our every need. He provides us with hope for the future and knowledge from the past and will never stop doing for us. We, humankind, are His treasured possessions and His desire is to establish us with all of His heart. He wants us to know great and glorious things that we know not about Him. He tells us that if we will seek Him with all of our heart, we will find Him. If we will delight ourselves in Him, He will give us the desires of our heart. It is He who has given us the desires in the first place. He is all caring. As a shepherd would care for his sheep even the more so does our God care for His children. He has carried us close to his heart and wipes away the tears and gives ease to the pain and the brokenhearted. He is for us, not against us. His ways are right ways and will bring and produce in us the great blessings of God. He has given us His word that nothing can separate us from the love of God. He loves us unconditionally. He loves us so much that He cannot allow us to sin and break His great law and be excused. He punishes us and corrects us and directs us that we may enjoy Him to the fullest. How foolish we are to go our own way and forget His greatness and provision.
