Christ Died for Us

“But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

Cyrus King of Persia was constantly being bothered by one of his provincial rulers. Cyrus sent out his army and captured the rebel and his family. He had him put in a place of safe keeping but one day decided to interview him. While he was in the course of talking with him, he decided not to kill him but to spare his life and that of his family.

Cyrus posed this question to him, “What would you do if I spared your life?” He answered, “Oh, my King, I would serve you with all my strength.” Cyrus asked another question, “What would you do if I spared the life of your wife?” He answered, “I would serve you to my death.” After hearing and believing his answers the mighty King Cyrus made the rebel Captain over one of his armies.

On his way to his new post he asked his wife, “Did you see all the silver armor?” She replied, “No.” “Did you see the marble ornaments in the King’s court?” “No.” she replied. “Did you see the gold throne that Cyrus sat on?” Again, she replied, “No.” He asked, “What did you see?” She replied with great humbleness of heart, “I saw only the face of the man who said he would die for me!”

We have a Saviour who not only said He would die for us, but did die for us. What precious words we find in the scriptures, “Christ died for us!” Not only did He die in our place, in so doing He provided for us eternal life in heaven with Him.

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Would you not take the time to think upon He who went to the cross of Calvary and died for you? His name is Jesus Christ our Lord.
