America Still Needs God

Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.

We have tried everything in America. We have pursued pleasure until more is spent on entertainment today than any other country in the world. We have sought knowledge until we hold first place in matters of inventions and science. We have reached out after wealth until we have become the richest country in the world. But our nation is still a nation of dishonesty, distrust and dissatisfaction; no peace but continuous turmoil and unrest.

Our nation is pushing forward a great program of defense. We are in favor of ships and planes and tanks and armaments for the protection of our right to freedom and worship of God. However, it does seem that some misinterpret the meaning of our weapons of defense.

In 1939 the Germans were storming the gates of Paris. The news reported that more people were in church that day in Paris than any other day since 1918. Is America going to have to witness an invasion from another country before we realize where our great blessings have come from? Surely, we ought to be worshipping and honoring God in our country. Surely, we ought to be praying and giving thanks unto God for His rich and great blessings.

We need God in our homes, our nation and our churches. We need to hear from our leadership, “but as for me and my house we will serve the Lord.”

The above thoughts are from a church bulletin dated November 9, 1980. That was forty years ago. Forty years ago we were trying to get people to see the direction of our homes, our nation and our country. It seems we have learned little and continue in the same paths of spiritual decline. Paul said, “Evil men and seducers will wax worse and worse, but continue thou in the things thou hast learned.”

Thank God for the faithful few of the year 2020!
