Pastors and Teachers

I would have great difficulty finding words to describe the great honor it is to be called a pastor. To pastor a New Testament church is the greatest honor that could be afforded to a man. To be called of God to lead a flock of God’s people by preaching and teaching the Word of God.

A pastor experiences every week a new experience as he searches the scriptures for the mind of God to feed his flock. What a tremendous honor and joy to see the hand of God move as He opens the Word and shows that pastor what His flock needs. I never cease to be amazed as I study and pray and search and then see God reveal His will for the church.

The word teaches us that God gave pastors and teachers for the perfecting of the saints. () The word “perfecting” means maturing or growing in grace and knowledge of our Saviour the Lord Jesus Christ. The place that you grow is in the pew at the local church under the preaching and teaching of the Word of God.

There is, however, a great frustration in all of this for the Pastor. He studies and prays and finds the mind of God and knows that his flock needs this message. He goes to the pulpit full and charged only to look out over the congregation and see all of those that this message was for have not come.

A pastor does not study and pray for money or fame but for the honor of being obedient to the calling on his life; that being to preach the Word of God for the purpose of perfecting of the saints and to see the church grow in grace and faith and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ.

If you want to be a blessing to your pastor, be faithful to the church.
