The Latter Times
Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils.

The first forty years of the church was free from heretics and heresy. As the apostles and those who believed truth passed off the scene the heretics began to move into the church. The Apostle Paul gives us a very vivid description of what we can expect in these “Latter Times.”

He says they will depart from the faith {The truth} being led away by seducing spirits {deceivers} and demonic teaching. They are liars and hypocrites because their conscience has been burned with the lies of the devil. He, “The devil” is a master at making bad look good and good look evil.

We are warned to refuse profane {Irreverent} and old wives fables {myths} but exercise {practice} ourselves unto godliness. Question: How do we do this?

We trust in the living God, who is the Savior of all men. We can witness to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ and because of our salvation we can command and teach truth. We can be examples in word {testimony}, in conversation {the way we live and act}, in charity {love}, in spirit {attitude}, in faith {believing} and in purity {morality}. How do we do this? Three things:

  1. Give attention to reading: The Word of God
  2. Give attention to exhortation: Encourage others
  3. Give attention to doctrine: Sound {healthy} teaching

There will be a two-fold reward. Thou shalt save thyself and those that hear you.
